10 Steps to an Amazing at Home Manicure
If going to the beauty salon is not an option, you can do your manicure at home. Doing your nails brings happiness, and it can also have therapeutic benefits. It is challenging for many people to have the same results at home, but it is possible with practice and an excellent method.
Here are ten secrets on how to do a manicure at home like a pro.
1. Organize Your Tools
If you are planning to do your manicure at home, you need to have the right tools. The necessary equipment includes:
- Nail clippers
- Cuticle softener
- Nail polish remover
- Nail colors
- An exfoliating scrub
- Hand cream or lotion
- A buffer
- A file
- A cuticle pusher
- A base coat
- A top coat
- Cotton Pads/ Q-tips
Once you gather all the tools, you can start!
2. Remove Nail Polish
Make sure to remove any old polish. If your nails are unpolished, clean them with nail polish remover to make the surface smooth.
3. Clip and File
Clip your nails to the length you prefer and shape them to your desired form. If you have short nails, you can only give them a beautiful shape. Square nails with round corners are always a classic look.
4. Push Back Your Cuticles
Prepare cuticles with a cuticle softener to help remove dead skin and soften the area. Then gently push back with a cuticle pusher. Keep in mind that your cuticles are responsible for protecting your nails from bacteria, so do not cut them.
You can skip this step if you prefer, but exfoliating your hands removes dry skin and leave your hands soft and smooth. You should not exfoliate every day as you might irritate the skin. Do it no more than three times per week, depending on your skin moisture levels.
Apply hand cream or lotion to combat the signs of premature aging, and increase moisture levels and skin elasticity. Make sure to do a massage for a few minutes. Don’t forget to focus on your fingers, the space between them, and your nail beds.
7. Apply A Base Coat
If you want to prevent chipping while protecting and hydrating your nails, apply a base coat. Make sure to wait at least two minutes between each layer, starting with the base coat to lock color and keep it from discoloring your nails.
8. Apply Your First Coat Of Nail Polish
Now it is time to apply a coat of your favorite nail polish. Get the color all the way down to the cuticle, and don’t forget the corners of your nail. The key to perfect nail color is to maximize coverage on the first coat.
Load enough polish on the brush to cover the nail in one coat. Avoid overloading the brush and doing too many strokes. Beauty experts recommend striping your nail three times: once down the middle and once on each side.
9. Apply Your Second Coat Of Nail Polish
Set the timer and wait two minutes to apply a second coat of nail polish. It is an excellent idea to do a third coat for sheer or pastel shades. The key is to keep it smooth.
10. Clean Up
Clean up any mistakes by soaking a cotton ball or Q-tip in nail polish remover and pass it carefully around your nails. Then let your nails dry for at least five minutes.
